My Story

Hi, I’m Kris. I’m a creative eclectic and working mom with three boys between the ages of 6 – 14. My husband and I are raising our kids on a rural farm in the heart of the Midwest with a dozen chickens, three dogs, and a hedgehog.

I’ve been interested in health for a long time; I’ve been working with a local healthcare facility for the past 16 years. As a mom, I want my family to be healthy, but one thing that is the most frustrating as a mom who cares about my family’s health is the lack of traceability in our foods. There aren’t many resources available on where our food comes from, how it’s grown or who it’s grown by. These are all things I care about, and I want my family to care about, too.

How I keep my family healthy isn’t some life-changing thing, but I want to share an authentic representation of a real family who cares about good food and where that food comes from.

The goal of A Bushel & A Plate is to help you nourish your family with balanced, delicious and wholesome foods.
