Chili and Cinnamon Rolls: A Midwestern Staple

When I was growing up, chili and cinnamon rolls were a common meal in our house. Fast forward to today, and it’s still being served in schools to my kiddos. As I got older I realized how much of a Midwest staple the meal really is. Some states observe is as normal and others couldn’t be more appalled. Later in life, I remember meeting friends from the coast that couldn’t imagine consuming the pair together. It’s just like any other regional tradition – when it’s something you’re not used to – it seems odd!

But In my mind, it is the perfect combination of salty and sweet. Both cinnamon rolls and chili are great comfort foods, so why not serve them together? On a cold winter day, there is nothing I’d rather be eating than a hearty stovetop chili with the complimentary sweet cinnamon roll. While I have had wonderful different variations of chili, I think that sticking with the classic is the best way to go – so here is my take on one of the best comfort foods there is! I recommend pairing with your favorite cinnamon roll, obviously!
